The Year of Azealia Banks

Azealia Banks has been a busy busy girl. She's done tracks with world-renowned producer Diplo, gotten signed by and then left XL Recordings and made NME's Cool List in 2011. She's taken the underground music scene by storm. She started off 2012 by announcing her collaboration with indie band Scissor Sisters and was the first artist to confirm a performance at Coachella. She's gotten a lot of hype over the past year and she deserves it. Her brash way of rapping paired with a wonderfully soulful singing voice in a tiny package makes her a powerhouse of epic proportions. If you don't believe me, check out her single '212' featuring Lazy Jay. Her rapping is all sass with enough self-confidence to blow any of her contemporaries into next week, claiming in the first verse "You could see I been that b**** since the Pamper". It's got a great track and the video features Lunice, which proves her music has gotten her plenty of friends in high places. I've been listening to this track non-stop since I first heard it and now I'm getting it stuck in your head. Check out the video for '212' HERE (may be NSFW due to language). Enjoy and prepare to hear this girl's voice all over for (hopefully) the next several years.

  1. Elene,

I love the concept of your blog. I am a true believer that there are many artists and/or bands who are rather talented but unfortunately, will never make it to the air waves of radio. I enjoyed checking out Azealia Banks' music. Although her music is not my choice in music, I admire her talent and think it is great that you have showcased her on your blog.

    Good luck on your blog!
